Who Loves Cookie Dough?!? - A KudosReading Educator Special

It was quite refreshing to sit with Dough founder, Adrienne.  We chatted about starting our own businesses and caught up on eachother's mini milestones.   As I sat across from her at a Starbucks near her office with iced coffees (the entrepreneur drink of choice) in tow; I got to learn more about her.  Adrienne is quite a breath of fresh air.

She is a motivating and inspiring young woman who has turned her favorite hobby into full time job.   I couldn't help but ask her to do an interview with us in typical Kudos fashion.   She was also gracious to give our KudosReading educators a special discount for those of us who have a sweet tooth.  So make sure to check your inboxes, because these little jars of 'yummy-ness' make great easter basket, student of the month and party favor gifts!

A Sweet Interview with

Adrienne, CEO and founder of @dough_love

1. What genre of books do you enjoy reading?

I try to read a bit of everything, but I've always loved most sorts of fiction. I've been a voracious reader since I was very little - and now if I go too long without reading any type of book I'll find myself really missing it. That happened recently when I was just too caught up in my business and always just focusing on that. So I forced myself to take a day off and head out to the library and I came home with a dozen books. I'm a quick reader as well so I always try to read some of the "buzzy" books just so I know what people are talking about. The last book I read was "The Girl on The Trainby Paula Hawkins. I was a little late to the party on that one but figured I should give it a go.

2. What is your favorite book?

I was never good at picking favorites of anything. I like too many things to have just one favorite. I've read Homer's Odyssey a few times though - so I think I must enjoy it. For lighter reading I enjoyed The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. It's considered fantasy which I've not read much of but I thought it was really whimsical and fun.

3. Who is your favorite book character and why?

One of my favorite characters has to be Madeline from the children's series by the same name. She's consistently brave, courageous, loyal and a bit mischievous - and she's not afraid to stand up to anyone!

4. What book is good for students who want to learn about baking?

Williams Sonoma's Essentials of Baking does a great job of covering different areas of sweet & savory baking along with basic techniques, trouble shooting tips etc. I've had my copy for almost 15 years and I still use it all the time!

5. What advice for kids that you would give if they wanted to start their own business?

You need to be willing to work incredibly hard to make your passion into a business. It's certainly not easy - but if it's something you're willing to work for it can be more fulfilling and worthwhile than you can imagine. And making mistakes is always okay. You can't be paralyzed by a fear of making mistakes along the way because it's guaranteed they will happen. Just learn from them and keep going.

6. If you can earn a KudosReading badge which one would it be and why?

The best friend badge! A love of reading can provide a lot of the same things a great friend brings to your life. Books can make you laugh or cry - they can keep you company when you're feeling lonely or help you escape when you need some time away. Books have always been a comfort in my life and I treasure them the same I do my best friends.

In honor of launching her online website where you can order cookie dough until your heart’s content - we would like to extend our dough promotion to our KudosReading educators.  Look out in your inbox for your secret code!  If you haven't seen it, email Nicole@kudosreading.com.

  1. LOVE that you interviewed a VORACIOUS reading because that's my goal as a KUDOS READING teacher: to hook kids onto a variety of genres so they can find their passion. Who knows...perhaps it will lead them to be an entrepreneur!
